 Lunch and Learn Series | Aug-Sept 2022

 

Join us for a series of free lunch-and-learn presentations by Washington State Library, Washington State Archives, and Legacy Washington. These presentations will be held Aug. 10, Aug. 25, and Sept. 15 in the Columbia Room on the first floor of the Legislative Building (416 Sid Snyder Ave. SE, Olympia) on the Capitol Campus.

The presentations will start at 11:30 a.m. and end by 1 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch.

 

Digitizing the Dan Evans Scrapbooks, Washington State Archives

August 10, 2022

Daniel J. Evans, 16th governor of Washington and U.S. senator, documented his remarkable political career in his scrapbooks. Maggie Cogswell, the State Archives’ Assistant Digital Projects and Preservation Archivist, will talk about the Dan Evans Scrapbook collection, the Digital Projects department, and its process for making the collection available online on the Washington State Digital Archives.

 

Triaging Information Requests at the Washington State Library: Understanding Our Questions, Our Customers, and the Critical Role of Washington’s Newspapers

Kathryn Devine and Mary Schaff with the State Library will explore how constituents turn to librarians for help navigating Washington’s government. They will touch on the challenges and opportunities present in this kind of work, as well as the critical role played by Washington’s newspapers.

 

Looking Back at the City of Tomorrow

September 15, 2022

Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Seattle World’s Fair, Research Archivist Benjamin Helle will present historic images from the fair. The Seattle Center, Space Needle, Monorail, Bubbleator, and Gracie Hansen's Paradise International will be featured from the collection of photographs held at the State Archives’ Puget Sound Branch.
